Aguila Cup is coming to Texas

by DJS

Aguila Ammunition is excited to announce the inaugural Aguila Cup is coming to Texas. This family-friendly event will take place outside the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area at Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds in Decatur, Texas.

For the past three years Aguila has hosted the Copa Aguila in Mexico and the tournament has proven to be the largest sport-shooting event in all of Latin America. This marks the first year Aguila Ammunition has hosted a tournament on U.S. soil.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) recently reported a steady climb over the past six years with youth membership increasing 12 to 20 percent, making clay target shooting the nation’s fastest growing, and safest competitive high school sport. With shooting sports also gaining popularity among professional careers nationwide, it’s a perfect time to bring the event to the U.S.

“We welcome and encourage all shooters, as the Aguila Cup is a multidiscipline shooting sports tournament and will have something to offer every member of the family – from novice and youth shooters to professional, and will feature a category for every shooting discipline,” says Kristi Heuring, Director of Marketing for Aguila Ammunition.

The Aguila Cup offers the perfect opportunity for first time shooters. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) First Shots will be on site to work with new shooters, introducing them to rifle and shotgun shooting.  Novice sporting clays shooters will also be able to enter the Hunter Class division of the Main Event where (10) CZ 612 Target 12ga shotguns (valued at $549 each) will be given away to the first ten places.  The event will also feature a “chill zone” for spectators and shooters to enjoy outdoor games, a vendor area, food trucks, and raffles.

“The Aguila Cup will be held on Father’s Day weekend, June 14th – 17th.  Texas native and Texan Country/Red Dirt singer Wade Bowen will perform a private concert on Saturday evening, June 16th for registered shooters. Shooters will be eligible to purchase tickets for their families to the concert as well as the Texas-themed dinner,” continues Heuring. “The concert being part of our event is another unique element to only our tournament.”

Shooting categories include Sporting Clays, Five-Stand, FITASC, 3-Gun, and Rimfire. Aguila has partnered with 3-Gun Nation and Rimfire Challenge to design the stages for the individual 3-gun and rimfire events. $65,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. Any shooter who shoots in Five-Stand, Rimfire and 3-Gun may be eligible to also win Brownell’s Triple Threat High All-Around Award. The Triple Threat winner will be determined by the competitor with the highest combined score of all three disciplines and will win a $5000 prize pack and a custom trophy.
