by Lili Keys

San Antonio resident Ryan Spring hauled in a 12.5-foot tiger shark offshore of Port Aransas earlier this week.

According to reports, Spring was fishing with his dad when the big shark took a bait and proceeded to pull the boat an estimated 15 miles. After an 8-hour fight, Spring brought the big shark to the boat about five miles offshore.

The fish weighed 809 pounds, well short of the current state record of 1,129 pounds, caught on May 24, 1992 by Chap Cain III.

The meat from the shark was reportedly given to charity.
