Congratulations to Mrs. Barbara Sackman, who has been named the 2015 Weatherby Hunting and Conservation Award winner.

Barbara’s hunting started on a wager. If she was permitted to take a photo of a South African P.H. dressed in a tux (next to impossible), then she had to come hunt the next time in Africa — deal!  Well, as the story goes, she got the photo, and that was the start of a very long and rewarding hunting career that began in 1982.

Barbara has been fortunate enough to have harvested some special species, such as the Sulaiman Markhor, Adders duiker, Asian lynx, Siberian musk deer, and the mountain nyala, not to mention the Big Five.

She is a lifetime member of SCI; a member of the USSA Board and their Executive Committee; a Hunter Legacy 100 Foundation member; and a life member of FNAWS.

Barbara has received the New York Tri-State Chapter Presidents’ award twice; the Diana Award in 1999; the SCI Conservation Award in 2003; as well as the Magnum Villamanin award, the Orvis Super 20 award, and the Capra Super 20 award.  She is a member of the SCI Diamond Level – 25, a lifetime member of the NRA, and last but not least a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Barbara is the mother of three wonderful children and the grandmother of twelve, seven of whom are all ardent hunters.  She has hunted extensively with her husband Alan, to whom she has been married for a wonderful 54 years.

With Alan winning the award in 2008, this marks the first time in the history of the Weatherby Award that a husband and wife have both won the award.
