After a week of wading and finding redfish and trout patrolling the shorelines, Capt. Nathan Beabout headed to the jetties, seeking bull reds.
“The fall months are coming up on us fast, marking the start of the bull run,” Beabout said. “We found a few spots where the current was moving and set up in about 30-feet of water. We had plenty of hard-pulling fish and a lot of action with black drum.”
Beabout was still a little early for the bull reds.
“We only caught a few bull reds,” he said. “The black drum weighed in between 30-35 pounds, and the redfish measured 36-40 inches.”
The guide said the black drum are usually the first to show up in early September.
“As the month progresses and fall arrives, the bull reds will start to pile into the jetties and passes,” he said.
