Story from Statewide Quail Symposium

This August will see the return of the Statewide Quail Symposium, a conference which brings together quail management experts and advocates for three days of education. It begins with a field day on August 14th at the MT7 Ranch in Breckenridge, where ranch manager Ty Bartoskewitz will walk us through management strategies implemented on the property and demonstrate some of them in action. It will also be a great opportunity to work on plant identification skills and practice quail habitat evaluation first-hand with guidance from the pros.

On August 15th, the symposium proper begins. Sessions over the next two days will include a celebration of outreach and education efforts in the name of quail conservation, as well as an overview of organizations and programs supporting landowners in cultivating quail habitat. We will also address hot-button issues like quail management on small acreages, quail predators, and strategies for restoring quail to depopulated areas. On the last day, you’ll hear the latest developments in quail research and learn how our methods of studying quail are changing—for the better.

We’ll convene at the MT7 Ranch on August 14th at 1:30 PM for the field day, then talks on the 15th and 16th will be held at the MCM Elegante Hotel in Abilene. Save money by registering early at a cost of $50, or pay $75 at the door. Students will enjoy further discounted rates of $20 for early registration or $50 at the door. You can also get a discounted room rate at the MCM Elegante by mentioning the Statewide Quail Symposium when you make your reservation. Early registration rates expire August 7th, and the room discount expires July 16th.
