DSC 0006On May 3, 350 shooters competed in one of Houston Safari Club’s biggest events, the Shoot for the Troops Sporting Clays Tournament held at the Greater Houston Gun Club.

Many of the shooters were HSC members and their guests, but the highlights were the dozens of wounded warriers from the Houston and San Antonio area.

“The event has really taken off,” said HSC executive director Chris Susilovich. “We expect this years’ event to raise more than $100,000 for the HSC Hunting with Heroes Program.”

The program provides a series of hunts that allows those who have been injured in service to experience the great outdoors.

Some of the shots were tough, some not so tough, but shooters of all skill levels enjoyed the 12-station, 76-shot course.

“I didn’t even know this place was here,” said Taylor Parker of Houston. “It’s amazing — I’ll definitely be back next year.”

After the shoot and chicken-fried steak dinner, raffles and a live and silent auction gathered attention as top-level guns and hunts had participants raising their hands and gladly reaching for their checkbooks.
