At a check presentation celebration held at Collector’s Covey in Dallas, Park Cities Quail presented checks to the beneficiaries of the annual fundraiser held in March.
“We are the first fundraiser to gross more than $1 million that I know of,” said committee member Joe Crafton.
Committee chairman Scott Asbury presented the first check in the amount of $17,800 to the Bobwhite Brigades.
“The brigades puts the kids in an environment where they can express their full genetic potential,” said Dale Rollins of the Rolling Plains Quail Research Institute and developer of the brigades program. “It’s a boot camp on quail management that expresses leadership skills.”
The Bobwhite Brigades celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and still has room for more youngsters.
“We have room for eight more kids,” Rollins said.
The second check, presented to RPQRI for use in its quail research projects examining quail habitat, diseases and parasites, including the Operation Idiopathic Decline project, demonstrated the success of the event. The amount donated was a whopping $625,271.
PCQ also has spawned the Quail Coalition, a growing group of chapters across the state. Recent events were held in Wichita Falls and Austin.
