Central:
Name: Mike Clement
Date: 10/13/14
Location: Devil’s Lake, ND
Weather: Highs in the 50’s/ Lows in the upper 30’s.
Water Conditions: Excellent
Feeding Conditions: Birds feeding in the mornings and evenings in mostly wheat fields with some in beans.
Species and Numbers: A lot of resident ducks have seemed too moved out with some northern birds moving in but slowly. Seems like last weekend there was a lot less ducks around but still a good amount of Canada geese. I only observed one field holding a small amount of snow geese.
Migrations: A few northern mallards have moved in but a lot of local ducks have moved out.
Season Stage: Mid-early
Hunting Report: Hunting went ok this past weekend for me but it seems to have slowed a bit. I didn’t find many large feeds of ducks like the weeks before as it seems a lot of local birds moved out from weather and pressure. There are still a good amount of Canadian geese. Warm weather is projected through the rest of the week so I don’t see any reason for a big push of birds but I hope it is better than last weekend.

Water Conditions: River systems still have great water; big water (local lakes and reservoirs are about 50 percent full and have great back water). Farm ponds are full due to lots of rain and irrigation run off.
Feeding Conditions: Corn harvest is in full swing.
Species and Numbers: Lots of teal and big ducks have made their way down to the farm ponds and back waters of the big reservoirs. Also local wetlands and flooded meadow are starting to build duck more and more numbers.
Migrations: Slow migrations due to early seasons and warmer weather. Teal and a few big ducks are the only birds that have really shown up.
Season Stage: Not started
Hunting Report: Good early teal season. There have been lots of teal around due to the great water conditions.
Gossip:Â None

Water Conditions: Rain from a couple weeks ago caused a lot of wet spots in the low areas of fields and pastures and the water level in the river is continuing to recede….slowly.
Feeding Conditions: Chopped corn, a variety of beans and plenty of green alfalfa.
Species and Numbers: Still only local ducks and geese in the area.

Name: Casey Hopfer
Date: 10/13/2014
Location: Richmond, MN
Weather: South winds, mid-day temps in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.
Snow Cover: None
Water Conditions: Water levels remain good throughout the area, ponds are accessible and lakes have adequate water.
Feeding Conditions: Many chopped corn fields around the area, but they have little corn left in them for food. Bean fields are being harvested and some corn fields are now being combined.
Species and Numbers: Duck numbers are low, mainly mergansers being seen on local lakes and sloughs right now. Some wood ducks around yet. Good goose numbers in the area.
Migrations: No migration the past weekend with the south winds. Later this week we should see a push of birds with increasing NW winds.
Season Stage: Early
Hunting Report: Very few ducks around, some wood ducks on sloughs and in some corn fields but that’s about all. Good goose numbers, but the large amount of chopped corn fields has them jumping fields trying to find food in them.
Gossip: Few ducks, but lots of mergansers around. Strong goose numbers in spots around the area.
Name: Richard Shamla
Date: 10-14-14
Location: Clara City, MN
Weather: Clear and windy with daytime highs in the 60’s with night lows in the 40’s. We had mild weather this week. Last weekend we had some sustained winds.
Snow Cover: None
Water Conditions: Water levels continue to drop with little rain, but they are still higher than average.
Feeding Conditions: Waterfowl are mostly feeding in the early morning and late evening hours. The waterfowl are mainly feeding in the harvested soybean fields, silage and a few harvested corn fields.
Species and Numbers: Goose numbers remain about the same with no notable increase. Some of the main roosts have more geese on them due to hunting pressure. Duck numbers seemed to have declined with most of the small ducks moving out of the area. For the second week divers such as canvasbacks and ring-necks are more abundant in the area.
Migrations: Some divers coming through but not much else for movement with the nice weather.
Season Stage: 3rd week of regular duck and goose season.
Hunting Report: Goose hunting some good for a few groups this past week that hunted the few harvested corn and bean fields. Overall the hunting pressure has dropped. Duck hunting is very hit or miss with less success being reported. Mainly we need better weather and some migrating waterfowl.
Gossip: Overall hunting success for pheasant opener was poor as a lot of the corn crop is still standing.

Species and Numbers: Saw a good number of wood ducks and local mallards around, few geese though.
Migrations: Canadas, teal have moved through.
Season Stage: Beginning stages

Name: Gerry Mazur
Date: October 14th, 2014
Location: Williston, Ohio
Weather: Cloudy with rain and very windy with gusts in the 20’s. Heavy rain expected with temps in the 70’s and then moving back to the 60’s and 50’s as fronts move in.
Snow Cover: None
Water Conditions: Southwest winds are pushing water levels out around the marshes and bays.
Feeding Conditions: Some fields are open that have taken wheat off. Beans and corn are plentiful but the wet weather will push back harvest.
Species and Numbers: Not seeing much in the way of numbers at Ottawa and Magee Refuges. Few mallards and fewer geese to see around the two facilities.
Migrations: Would have to say not yet.
Season Stage: The Ohio opener is set for the 18th in the north zone.

Â
Name: Justin Weber
Date: 10/14/2014

Migrations: A large number of geese showed up about a week ago. Roost ponds are filled up with birds. There has been a few ducks coming and going as well.
Season Stage: Season split

Gossip: Can’t wait for season to be back on this weekend!
Â
Name: Josh Ernst
Date: 10/14/2014
Location: Walford, Iowa
Weather: Mid 50’s, cloudy, rain and windy.
Snow Cover: NA
Water Conditions: River levels are on the rise with portions of Iowa receiving 2+ inches of rain over the last 3 days.
Feeding Conditions: Feeding patterns have been a mess with conditions so once weather patterns straighten out we should be back to an early AM feed and a later afternoon feed.
Species and Numbers: Duck seasons are closed this week and the only open season is on geese. Goose numbers seem to be low to average for the area however with picked corn fields coming out these birds should get further from town to feed. With wet conditions, it will be a while before the landowners are back in the field.
Migrations: Saw a big push of birds move in about two weeks ago and since that time haven’t gained any new birds however likely that we lost some fowl.
Season Stage: Pretty early yet in the season to get good patterns nailed down and hunting reports are fairly slim. With new fields opening up with should be good to get after them once conditions straighten out.

Species and Numbers: Only the early migrants are here now, teal, pintail, and gadwall. A few specks have shown up as well.
Migrations: Not many ducks or geese yet, we will need a strong north wind to push them this far south.

Species and Numbers:Â 20 wood ducks, 30 greenheads and about 150 Canada geese
Migrations: We did not see to many groups of birds moving around most likely due to warm weather and ample feed.
Hunting Report: Fall foliage that is coming down is making it a very rich camo pattern for duck to blend in with. This has been creating a difficult scenario to scout and spot birds.
Gossip: We are approaching the split here in southern Maine and will have to travel a little to be able to hunt birds or we can dawn a little orange and do some
upland. Any way you decide to play, good luck out there!
