amagImagine a lightweight, hand-held unit with a complete map of your ranch or lease, including locations of feeders, water sources and blinds. Or, for a new hunting location, a bird’s eye view of hills, valleys and water sources.

New at the 2013 SHOT Show, the unit was gathering attention from hunters and retailers alike.

Starting with the map, hunters can then add waypoints that include sightings of animals, tracks, rubs and scrapes. A trail camera waypoint-marking feature makes it easy to mark the locations of each camera, with easy navigation to any desired spot.

“You can build a hunting database of the information you collect over time,” said Pattie Adams, Magellan’s Sr. Public Relations Manager. “It can help you scout ahead of the hunt.”

And there’s more. Preloaded on the unit is a custom detailed base map for the lower 48 states and Alaska. The map includes water features, urban and rural land use and a complete road network.

So, if you’re going to a new place, you can “virtually scout” a future hunt location. The ability to spot game funnels, potential feeding areas and glassing locations saves time and increases the chances of success. Areas of interest can be marked and waypoints loaded into the eXplorist 350H, and you’re ready for the field, even before you go. Additional information is easily added once the hunting begins.

And, on new public or private property areas, the unit will automatically alert the hunter when approaching the boundaries to make sure he or she stays within the area they are permitted to hunt.

Easy to use, the 350H unit has a 2.2-inch color screen and is available in a camouflaged exterior. MSRP is $299.99.
