Story from CCA STAR

As of this morning, the CCA STAR Tournament announced its first confirmed winner of the year.

Dom Lopez, 19, of Corpus Christi takes the first Ford F-150, 23′ Haynie Bigfoot, Mercury outboard, and Coastline trailer combo of the summer.

Four more truck/boat combos and five more boats are left up for grabs in this division.

Hear the story of the catch in his own words:

When I was 8 years old my father caught a tagged redfish while wade fishing with a friend, sadly my dad was not a member and we were not able to receive the truck and boat package. Ever since that day we both have been members of CCA, we have always talk about getting a boat so that we could go out wade different areas and just enjoy being on the water.

Well on June 7, 2019 my luck will change for the best , I had asked everyone that I knew if they wanted to go fish, but all were busy so I decided to take my grandpa out on a little wade fishing trip. My grandpa hadn’t fished in 2yrs so i figured why not take him.

While we are fishing I see a good friend of mine that is also fishing. My first cast and I hook up on a nice red, I bring him up to the net and looked to see if he was “the one “ but no he didn’t have anything.

I look over to my grandpa and he is hooked up on a nice redfish that was about 26 in. Two casts later I hook up on a nice redfish.

As I’m fighting the redfish I see the tag, and when I saw that tag my whole body just went numb and I slowly netted the fish.

It was a feeling I will never forget as I walk over to my grandpa I said to him “ we have to go home “ he said “why we just got here” and I showed him the fish he shouted and gave me a big hug.

My friend Colton was there fishing by us as well and I shouted over to him that you caught a tagged redfish and he couldn’t believe it. It was a accomplishment of a lifetime my father and I have talked about it for years and finally I did it.

The tournament still has four trucks, seventeen boats, three UTV’s and $325,000 in scholarships up for grabs this summer in a variety of categories. So get entered today and catch your fish of a lifetime!
