Hunting and experiencing new things, it’s all part of the job. Managing editor Lili Sams accompanied her boyfriend, Carson Keys, on a mule deer hunt in Colorado during the second rifle season. Keys drew the tag this summer and Sams jumped at the opportunity to experience public land hunting for the first time.
While hiking through the pines on top of a ridge line, Sams realized no matter how you hunt, there’s an endless amount of work, effort and thought that goes into it. Maybe it’s filling the feeders and preparing the fields for the season or carrying all your gear (and hopefully, some fresh meat) on your back and hiking miles per day. The passion and drive is all the same. That’s what bonds hunters.
After 8 days of hunting, Keys harvested his mule deer on the last day in the last 10 minutes of light.
