When disaster strikes like it did in the city of West several weeks ago, the first responders and volunteer fire departments are the first to assist.
Now the families of those first responders and volunteers need help.
When the tragedy in West occurred, Mark Roundy felt like he had to do something. So he reached out to the Ray Hubbard, McKinney, Celina, and North Texas Bass Anglers bass clubs and organized a bass tournament to help West’s first responders and their families.
“Somewhere, someone needs help,” Roundy said. “I am just a fisherman who wants to help out.”
The West First Responders Benefit Bass Tournament will be held June 2 on Lake Ray Roberts. The tournament guarantees $2,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for third place. There will be a big bass pot with 100 percent going to the person who catches the biggest bass of the tournament.
As the tournaments organizer, Roundy’s goal is to have 200 teams participate so the pot for the big biggest bass winner gets a lot of money. The event will have a Bar-B-Que, live music and raffles with prizes that include fishing trips, lures, rods, sunglasses and gift cards. Roundy said he hopes the event will become an annual tradition.
“We are here to raise money for these families that have lost everything and they truly need our help,” he said.
