Fifteen thousand dollars in scholarship money and other prizes are among the top motivators for high school anglers to visit Texas this summer as the Lake Fork Chamber of Commerce hosts the 1st Annual “Lake Fork Open” High School Scholarship Tournament July 26 -27, 2014.
The Tournament is a two-day event on Saturday, July 26th and Sunday July 27th, and will be held at Oak Ridge Marina.
Scholarships will be paid to the top five places with 1st place paying $6,000. Entry is $50 per two person team and is open to all student anglers entering 9th grade in 2014 through seniors who just graduated and have not started college classes (see official rules for more details). The entry fee includes event t-shirt, entrance to the tournament social on Friday, fishing tips from local guides and Pros and a Saturday night block party with full dinner and activities.
“Early registration and motel reservations indicate a potentially large turnout for the inaugural event,” said Lake Fork Chamber of Commerce President Randy Bunch. “We are expecting a minimum of 300 two-person teams, plus boat captains and family members for an estimated 1,500 visitors to Lake Fork during the weekend.
Tournament Director Micheal Rogge also commented, “To the best of my knowledge this is the single largest high school scholarship tournament in the country. We will be giving $15,000 in scholarships as well as product prizes from sponsors.”
The primary mission of the Lake Fork Open High School Scholarship Tournament is to provide college scholarship funds to high school students while teaching sportsmanship and responsibility in a fun and friendly environment.
