Story from the Inland Fisheries Department Dallas-Fort Worth District
Last Thursday night, the Inland Fisheries Department Dallas-Fort Worth District continued its electrofishing surveys of largemouth bass, spotted bass, sunfish and shad populations in Lake Worth.
Catch rates of sunfish and spotted bass were lower than in the previous survey (2018), but largemouth bass and shad catch rates were higher.
There is plenty of forage for sunfish and shad. The biologists noted largemouth bass are healthy and reproducing well.
Largemouth bass catch rate, length distribution, and condition (health) from Lake Worth. The grey bars, in the chart above, are the number of fish caught per hour for each inch group. The green line indicates minimum length limit for largemouth bass. Red squares are the relative weight value for each inch group which indicates fish health. A relative weight value above 85 is good.
