Leon takes Kayak Angler’s Tournament Series win on Conroe

Robert Leon reeled them in on Saturday, catching the days’ only five-bass limit totaling 85.25 inches to secure a first-place check for more than $500 and a custom engraved Yak Attack Blackpak at the second stop of the Kayak Angler’s Series Tournament on Lake Conroe.

Sam Gutierrez, a rising star within KATS, took second with 47.75 inches. Guitierrez is currently leading the Kayak Angler of the Year standings.

In third, Ryan Herzog caught 42.5 inches of bass and also won big bass honors with a 22.25-inche toad.

Leon holds the current lead for King of the Fish with 130 total inches over the first two events of the season.

In the Social division, Dawson Merrill, 13, kept his winning streak going with a first-place finish. He caught an 18.75-inch bass. Larry Fisseler, who took first at the Decker Lake stop on Jan. 11, placed second on Conroe. In third was a newcomer fishing his first event in the series — Kirk Beverung.
