Hunters are the new techies.
The recently released official Outdoor Annual — Texas Hunting and Fishing Regulations mobile app has been updated to include season dates and bag limits for the 2014-2015 waterfowl season, as well as corrections and clarifications to deer and turkey regulations in certain counties.
The app is available for free download on iOS and Android platforms, providing sportsmen with mobile access to information they can use in the field and on the water.
Those who have already downloaded the app will need to install the update from their app store to ensure they are referencing accurate regulations and for optimized performance. For those who have not yet downloaded the free app, visit www.txoutdoorannual.com/app.
Once installed, the app enables access to the summary of the Texas 2014-2015 hunting and fishing regulations without having to be connected to the Internet. It can also use a device’s GPS capabilities to access location-specific regulations, such as exceptions to fish size and bag limits and county-specific hunting regulations.
“Feedback on the new app has been tremendous,” said Josh Havens, Communications director for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. “From what we have seen, hunters and anglers alike really appreciate the ease and benefits of being able to access the Outdoor Annual,no matter where they are, on their phone and tablet.”
The content is mostly the same as in the printed Outdoor Annual, just in a different layout and with added interactivity. The screens are easy to use and have an easy-to-navigate layout. It includes things like county listings, species listings, definitions, and even details about species.
The new app also includes links to the department’s Weekly Fishing Reports as well as an ability to contact regional TPWD Law Enforcement offices. Links to purchase a license online and apply for Drawn Hunts are also available through the mobile app, though Internet connectivity is needed to access these outside links.
