NY Times Wirecutter staff writer, Sarah Witman, considered more than 100 models in her quest to find the best value-price trail camera.
Story from Wildgame Innovations
In a head-to-head review, the New York Times’ Wirecutter writer Sarah Witman selected Wildgame Innovations’ Mirage 18 as the Best Trail Camera Under $100. Despite hundreds of competing trail camera brands and models in the marketplace, only four total were selected for physical testing; three of which being Wildgame Innovations models.
Witman compared the four finalist cameras, mounting them side-by-side in her yard over two three-day periods, and collecting images and videos. She analyzed the images’ contrast, clarity, saturation and brightness, evaluating them between cameras. She also tested the detection distance of each model. In Witman’s testing, the Mirage 18 produced “the crispest, clearest still photos and videos of any trail camera tested.”
The Mirage 18 has a still-photo resolution of 18 megapixels – the highest of any model they tested – and, like the others, a video resolution of 720p. Each still photo is imprinted with the Wildgame Innovations logo, and the time, date, moon cycle, and image number, to easily organize your files afterward.
“If you want a trail camera that’s dependable and easy to set up, that won’t blow your budget, and that takes high-quality photos and videos, you should get the Wildgame Innovations Mirage 18”, states Witman. Witman notes, “It’s the trail camera we’d buy ourselves.”
The Wildgame Innovations Wraith 16 was the runner-up in this category, and the Wildgame Innovations Terra Extreme 14 was selected as the ‘Budget Pick.’ “It’s an honor that Wildgame Innovations secured the top-three spots in the trail cameras under $100 category by NY Times’ Wirecutter,” said Ray Dikun, Wildgame Innovations Director of Technology. “The recognition of making the best trail camera under $100 meshes with our goal of building dependable, high-resolution trail cameras using cutting-edge technology-for every budget.”
