Open once again — Water flowing from Cedar Bayou into Gulf

by Lili Keys

It took several decades, but Cedar Bayou and Vinson Slough are once again flowing into the Gulf of Mexico after construction crews removed the last few feet of sand separating the ocean from the bay this morning.

The cut runs between Matagorda and San Jose islands.

According to James Fox, who was in attendence for the opening, about 200 people came for the ribbon cutting ceremony in front of county officials.

The site is still an active construction zone, so boats can’t go into the cut yet.
