Home Texas Hunting Right on time

Right on time

by Lili Keys

Texas deer hunters woke up Saturday morning to something that had been missing throughout all of October — a nice chill in the air.

And right on time for the opening weekend of the Texas general gun deer season — and waterfowl season for duck and goose hunters. Temperatures dipped down into the 40s in places, and that got deer up and moving and waterfowl headed south.

Judging by texts, emails and what we’ve been seeing on poplar hunting Internet sites, many hunters had memorable opening weekends this year.

Some really nice deer fell in the Hill Country and farther north and east, where some rutting activity was seen. It won’t be long in places before bucks are throwing all caution to the wind and heading far and wide in search of does.

And we’ve also heard of a few monster deer taken in South Texas.

Let us know what kind of weekend you’ve had on our Facebook page.

It was a great weekend to be in the woods and a great start to the season for many.

Happy hunting.
