Longtime Dallas Morning News’ outdoor writer Ray Sasser received the Dallas Coastal Conservation Association Conservation Sportsman of the Year at the chapter’s banquet on April 21.

Sasser has served the Dallas Morning News since 1986, has written hundreds of articles for state, regional and national magazines, along with 12 books.

He has received awards from the Dallas Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Texas Wildlife Association, Park Cities Quail and he will be inducted into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame this year.

“I’ve caught just about every game fish that swims in Texas waters,” Sasser said. Thanks to CCA and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, speckled trout and redfish received the respect they deserved — and that conservation effort has spread across America.”

Accompanied by his wife and fishing partner, Emily, Sasser received an acrylic award along with his own CCA belt buckle.
