rockportphotoAreas in the Coastal Bend of Texas received up to 16 inches of rain Monday, resulting in severe flooding.

The National Weather Service reported that areas hardest hit were located from Portland to Bayside and from Rockport to Port Aransas.

Funnel clouds and possible tornados were reported near Palm Harbor, Portland, Rockport and east of Kingsville.

Along the east side of Highway 77 along the Coastal Bend, rains fell for three to four hours with areas receiving 12 to 16 inches of rain. The area remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 3 p.m.

“We received 8 to 10 inches of rain and tornados have hit all around us,” said Jeremy Griffis at the Port Bay Club on the west side of Rockport. “The pier was underwater but the water is slowly receding.”

Fishing guide Ethan Wells put his wife and kids in the bathtub.

“It’s crazy down here,” he said, noting he had heard about the tornado touching down at Palm Harbor.

Retired fishing guide James Fox kept friends updated on his facebook page, posting that “it’s raining in the ‘hood’ harder than you can imagine.”

Nicole Maxwell responded, “I had my hand in the running sink water washing something and got electrocuted. Literally had a flash come through the water! Scared the crap out of me!

Fox changed his mind about getting in the shower.
