Heartland DSC, one of 13 DSC Chapter Partners, prides itself on the mission of getting youth outdoors in Nebraska and Iowa.
The group is committed to giving kids the opportunity to hunt and fish, while ensuring that the families incur absolutely no costs to do so. As part of their mission statement states: We realize that if hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities are to remain a viable part of our society, it will be the youth that preserve them into the future.
The group makes a conscious effort to include all kids in the outdoors, accommodating children with limited mobility, life-threatening illnesses or disabilities. In 2019, Heartland DSC purchased an Action Trackchair, an all-terrain wheelchair, so that all children that want to get outdoors can. This Action Trackchair is loaned out by the group to kids or adults in Nebraska, Iowa and around the country, further bridging the gap between different conservation organizations and fortifying its mission.
In 2020, Heartland DSC gifted Cade, a wheelchair bound youngster from Nebraska, his own Action Trackchair. After being the first person to use the chapter’s chair on a successful elk hunt in New Mexico, the chapter saw Cade’s passion for the outdoors and wanted to make a difference in his life and give him the gift of freedom to get outdoors. In just four months, the Heartland Chapter was able to raise $18,000 for Cade to have a chair of his own.
From fishing clinics, hunter safety courses, hands-on wildlife encounters, hunting and fishing opportunities, it’s all about the kids for Heartland DSC.
