On February 25-26, Mesquite will once again play host to the Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival, which draws fly anglers from across the Lone Star State and the Southwest.
“Contrary to popular belief,” insists festival director Beau Beasley, “fly fishing is really pretty easy once you nail down the basics. That’s our goal at the Texas Fly & Brew: Make it clear that fly fishing is for everyone, and provide a place for them to learn those basics that demystify the sport.”
The Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival brings together the quiet sport of fly fishing with microbrewed beer. Vendors include fly shops, guides, and lodges from across Texas and the Southwest—and from further afield, like Alaska and Brazil. Author Tom Rosenbauer and guide Pat Dorsey, two of the most sought-after fly anglers in the country, head up a diverse lineup of speakers and instructors.
“This year we are thrilled to partner with Take Me Fishing to launch our inaugural ‘Beyond the Cast Women’s Fly Fishing Symposium,’” says Beasley. “This unique two-day features specialty classes taught by women for women. We hosted a similar symposium at our sister event, the Virginia Fly Fishing & Wine Festival, in January, and it was a huge hit with our attendees. We’re already seeing women respond from as far away as Colorado and Nevada. Our goal is to build a community of confident, like-minded outdoor women, so everyone who wants a fishing buddy knows where to find one.”
Admission to the Texas Fly & Brew is $20 and includes beer tasting for those ages 21 years and older. Children 16 and under are free with a paying adult.
