The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will hold a special meeting Thursday, July 16 at 9 a.m. for the sole purpose of discussing the evolving Chronic Wasting Disease situation in Texas.

The meeting will be held at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department headquarters, 4200 Smith School Rd., Austin, in the Commission Hearing Room.

While the meeting is open to the public, only invited testimony will be taken by the commission. Live streaming audio of the meeting will be available online at www.tpwd.texas.gov.

The meeting is in response to a recent finding of CWD in white-tailed deer held in a captive deer breeding facility in Medina County.

Staff and invited presenters will provide the commission with background, information and options, but more importantly, possible measures to further minimize the risk of CWD spreading into Texas’ free-ranging white-tailed deer herd and to protect the captive deer breeding industry.
